The Shot Heard ‘Round the World:
The War That Reached Our Shores
Exhibit Open Through Sunday, November 22
NSHM’s current exhibit, on view through November 22, commemorates the 250th anniversary of the United States by examining why the American colonies ultimately broke from Britain and how the North Shore of Long Island experienced the Revolutionary War and seven years of British occupation.
The exhibit showcases a rich selection of historical books accompanied by expanded interpretive text that illuminates the region’s role in the conflict—from North Shore soldiers who fought at the Battle of Long Island to families who fled across the Sound to Connecticut in search of safety.
A dedicated section highlights Glen Cove’s 1976 Bicentennial celebration, featuring photographs and a commemorative flag that connect our community’s past and present as we continue to honor America’s fight for independence.
